The Sacrifice of Hope – Life of Nothingness
Such a short chapter. Only a couple of paragraphs. Yet, we are pushed to the brink of nothingness – we are asked to stand face to face with the void. We see this nothingness before us, and we must come back.
Can we continue to Work for the benefit of all being everywhere when we have glimpsed the enormity of the endless nothingness? Yes. That is our sacrifice. We are asked to proceed.
We are reminded of the Book of Job. Here a righteous man, a prosperous and just man exists. Satan challenges the Lord and says, “sure Job worships you, but he has plenty. Take that away and surely he will curse you.” You know the rest of the story. Yes, Job is cast down and in his terrible doubt he never curses the Lord, only he has doubt.
In his despair Job calls our(19:10):
He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am gone; and mine hope hath he removed like a tree.
Hope is born of the world and walks always with its hand maiden Fear. We are asked to face what is truly before us, it is virtually impossible to help and make progress, yet that is our work.
Step forward and carry the burden of this Work with eyes wide open.
