The Sacrifice of Relationships – Life of Arrogance
How then does one go about the sacrifice of relationships? Let’s quote from the chapter (Page 196).
“To make this sacrifice one does everything as if one already knows everything and has nothing to learn.”
We read this and chuckle. We all know someone who “practices” this form of work on “others.” We say something humorous about them and go on our way. But, this does not address this practice for ourselves.
It is not possible to do this exercise in the “world” without grave consequences. But, consider for a moment what it would be like to actually do this exercise. If you live in a Group House within a community of workers, try the exercise in the following manner. Select each one of the members to hold the posture of this exercise for a day. He or she will be the master of the house. They will do nothing, but criticize everything. Should a conversation begin on any topic, they will finish the conversation with the definitive answer. The others must agree to the support the Master for the Day. With unremitting focus hold it for a day. Do not discuss it with others, and end your day without “summarizing” the results for your journal.
What will you have learned? Let us know.
