Shapeshifting up the Totem
“Voyaging back and forth between the human and other dimensions, using potential mental and emotional equations to produce a tangible construct, a totemic ladder, a dimensional elevator, the voyager shapeshifts through the totemic morphologies up, down, or both at once.”
As we read this chapter it is important to remember the context in which this chapter is written. Read then, the first sentence: “That we may perform our obiligation-tasks in the macrodimensions, we must learn to move freely in unobstructed pathways through space,…”
As I pursue the chapter there is embedded herein the beginnings of a “how to” begin thinking and considering the art of shamanistic voyaging. We must be careful with this beginning. This beginning – all beginnings – are critical. What intention do you bring forth. Do you read this chapter and “do” this Work to be known by others as a “true” Shaman? Are you here to build your personal power?
Recall – always the first sentence. EJ used to ask us the following question:
“How can I put myself in a position such that my transformation is a necessity for the Work?”
There are many hints in this chapter –
“All these taken together form the invocational trinity… set, setting and dosage.”
“Shamanism is the fastest, most ego-disintegrating and emotionally explosive of all the ways…”
In this chapter we are given the first hints about how to shape shift. We can do so by assuming the shape indicated in the chamber we seek. These techniques are not beginning techniques. These are matters which are discovered in time. They are discovered through practice and by trial and error.
When you voyage, what shape do you see yourself assuming?
