Chapter Ten
The Essentials of Momentum of Invocation
Chapter ten of the book – The Invocation of Presence – is the shortest chapter in this volume. It may be the shortest chapter in his entire set of offerings. It is a mere 5 paragraphs long. It is about 1/2 a page long.
It is almost like a break between the action. The next chapter – 11 – is a different type of dynamism. But, the author pauses to remind us once again to find ways and means to create ‘remembering factors.’
We have spoken of using our own mechanicality as a remembering factor. We have spoken about using the “continual irritation” of life in a community as a remembering factor. We have spoken of simply using the negativity of life to remind us to invoke our presence.
I would like to explore the ways and means of “planting” remembering factors around us through the use of the exercises within the Practical Work on Self series of exercises. We will take a look at only a few – (2) The Pond, (4) Booby du Jour, (9) One Small Habit, (15) Doorways, and (24) Last Hour of Life.
How can we create ways and means for each of us to place these (and other) exercises “around the house” [so to speak] to be found, or stumbled upon during the morning, noon and nights of our days.
Put your thinking caps on – let us develop some examples together.
