Beginning Work
The purpose of beginning work is to bring the machine into the waking state and to enable it to function as a transformational apparatus. Transformation is not an aim in itself but a stepping stone to a whole new way of like which we seek.
In this chapter EJ Gold puts us face to face with the work before us. We are given the formulation of beginning work. It is a formulation that is, quite frankly, too simple for the human mind to grasp. We must find a new place within ourselves to begin.
If we have already begun our work, in any discipline or method, we are able to harvest the work from our past efforts. Gold tells us “Nothing is Lost.” Our essential self has only two tools to bring forth to this battle with our sleeping machine. Our impartial Presence and the simple will of Attention. However, with these tools firmly gripped and always brought to bear, we can move mountains.
