The Sixth Book of the Dead called the Book of
El’Muumin
“I am the cause of safe passage toward the Lord through the terrors and fears of transit.” (1)
El’Muumin – is a shelter – One who recites this name will be free from any harm.
The ABD Guidebook is written poetically. We are thankful for that writing because we are forced to use our inner mind to glean the meaning from deep within our Essential Self. The Author is able to weave the parable needed to speak to our hearts.
In part, this Sixth book of the Dead is a book about Pride. In the book are presented the pitfalls of maintaining our life of pride. But, hidden within this Book is the very antidote to pride.
OKAY – Pride is at the very heart of our existence. It is tightly connected with our who we are. It is foundational … and there is the rub. We are not this incarnation, we are first and foremost an essential existence inhabiting this particular ego form. Somehow, we must drive a wedge between “I am my Ego” (Pride) and our existence as a Voyager. This is very hard to do. When in the transit world, we are given the appearance of the “Brilliant dazzling yellow light [the light of salvation]” (11). This is the high octane napalm; it will clear the forest undergrowth. But, if it happens too rapidly, we will bolt away and seek the soft blue light of the human world. Gosh – doesn’t that sound better – soft blue light! – Yeah but that is the Human World – Human all too Human.
Okay, we can hedge our bets here. Pride is actually a generality – it is the force of attachments to the human world. What does that mean exactly? We know we can rid ourselves of our attachments to a Ferrari and 2 carat diamonds… but, what about our attachment to the way we are ‘treated’ by others?
The antidote to pride is not humility that is the outward avoidance of pride. The antidote is confession.

Our group of deep divers has given us some remarkable tools. First there is a wonderful summary of the Chapter and how it flows with the ABD, but you will see a fine summary of how pride works and its huge costs. See the summary by Silverdale:

This is augmented by a wonderful exploration of confession by Wilson Cloudchamber:
Once again – the group understood the importance of including a musical interpretation of this book – it is worth the listen.
