The Seventh Book of the Dead called the Book of
Ul’Muhaimin
“I am He who brings His creatures of creation through the world of existence by the use of actions, food substances and lifetimes.”
“And in addition I bring control and preservation to all life through the action of my Divine Knowledge. And so it is I who have guardianship of all creatures in existence.”
Ul’Muhaimin is therefore:
The Protector, The Bestower of Security, The Guardian, The Safeguarder
The One who ensures well-being. The One who extends wings of Love to cover and protect creation. The One who is ever watchful. The One who protects and guards. The One who offers peace and security. The One who proclaims the Truth.
From the root h-y-m-n which has the following classical Arabic connotations:
to watch over, oversee, protect, guard
to be a witness to
to offer security and peace
to determine what is true
to extend a wing (like a hen protecting her chicks)
The Divine Name of Ul’Muhaimin
Thus, this attribute of the Divine is introduced to us. Ul’Muhaimin is the Protector and the Witness. In this context what might it mean to be a Protector. We see that the author is telling us about “preservation to all life through the action of my Divine Knowledge.”
Here this angelic form holds to the laws of existence for creatures. What does this mean, and how is that Protection consummated? We are reminded of Book 12 of the Odyssey. Here Odysseus and his men land on the Island of Helios. When Odysseus goes off to pray he warns the men to NOT eat the Cattle nor the Sheep. He goes to pray. They, of course, break the rule and eat of the Cattle and Sheep. When Odysseus returns he is shocked. For he “knows” that they have broken a Law of Nature, not merely a rule of men. Then, the ship is ruined by Zeus and all the men die, except for Odysseus.
So, we must consider what are the Laws of Preservation here? What is the role of the protector in this case?
